5-Bedroom Custom Home by Classic Cottages
When it comes to selecting a home, the builder you select to work with matters, especially in a dense, urban area. Working with an award-winning builder who has in-depth knowledge of your location provides peace of mind.
Furthermore, local builders offer an extensive understanding of building regulations, codes, and zoning in your specific location. If you’re in the Northern Virginia area, these nuances make it even more important to work with a builder who knows the area.
I toured the “Poppy” model by Classic Cottages while on a recent trip to Northern Virginia. Classic Cottages serves Arlington, Alexandria, McLean, Falls Church, and Vienna with distinction.
Founded in 2010, Classic Cottages got their start in residential renovations. Overtime, they transitioned to exclusively providing new residential construction.
The “Poppy” model boasts four stories of spacious living, five bedrooms, a two-car garage, and even a roof-top deck. The home beautifully showcases row house features with the townhome convenience of a garage and outdoor space.

Classic Cottages Custom Home Exterior
The five-bedroom custom home exterior encompasses rowhome charm with townhome convenience. Unlike some of the other homes I have toured, the two-car garage resides at the front of the home with the main entrance to the side.
The rear of the residence features a spacious back deck with a door to access the main living area. This home is only 22 feet wide but still boasts an incredibly spacious interior.
Custom Interior Plan from Classic Cottages
The custom interior of this home flawlessly executes 4,068 square feet of usable living space. The home is exactly what you would expect just a few miles from Washington, D.C. Since the home is in a metropolitan area where space is limited, the floor plan utilizes height over width. Engineered wood extends throughout the home with luxury finishes aiding to the overall appeal.
Mudroom & Powder Bath
The mudroom resides just off the main entrance of the home. The space includes a built-in drop zone, coat closet, and a door to access the two-car garage.
On the far side of the foyer is a powder bath. The powder bath includes a polished single vanity with upgraded countertops.
Kitchen & Dining
The gourmet kitchen resides off the front entryway of the home on the main level. The kitchen, dining area, and living area all flow together in an open-concept space.
The kitchen boasts a narrow island, peninsula sink, and subway tile backsplash. On the far wall resides a gas stove and stainless range hood. Behind the range hood, the subway tile goes all the way up to the ceiling. The kitchen includes an abundance of cabinet space which makes up for the absence of a pantry.
The dining area functions as an extension of the kitchen. A small alcove is lined with windows and casts a welcomed glow into the space.
Engineered hardwood floors lead through the kitchens and dining area to the living room.
The living area features a gas fireplace, recessed lighting, and a door to access the back deck. The deck includes a set of stairs to easily access the backyard.
The Primary Suite
The impressive primary suite measures 18’4”x16’6” and encompasses about half of the home’s second level. The suite features the same engineered hardwood floor showcased on the main level of the home.
Two separate walk-in closets reside on either side of the entrance to the en-suite bathroom.
The Primary Bathroom
The primary en-suite bathroom delivers a spa-like experience. The oversized en-suite boasts a double vanity, tile-surround soaking tub, tile-surround walk-in shower, and a water closet.
The first of two laundry rooms resides just beyond the primary suite. This- laundry closet includes room for a stacked washer and dryer.
Secondary and Tertiary Bedrooms
There are two additional bedrooms on the second level of the home. The first bedroom measures 14’0”x11’2” and the second measures 12’5”x17’8”.
Both bedrooms include carpet flooring, ceiling fans, closet space, and en-suite bathrooms. The en-suite bathrooms conveniently feature tile-surround tubbed showers.
The “Poppy” floor plan by Classic Cottages boasts a fourth loft level. The fourth level includes a wet bar, roof-top deck, fifth bedroom, and a shared, full bathroom.
The wet bar includes a wine cooler, prep sink, additional cabinet space, and polished tile backsplash that goes all the way up to the ceiling. A door just beyond the wet bar area leads to a private roof-top deck.
The roof-top deck adds incredible appeal to this home and also features a small outdoor storage area.
The shared full bathroom is similar to the en-suite bathrooms found in the secondary and tertiary bedrooms below. The bathroom features a tubbed shower and single vanity.
The bedroom itself nearly rivals the primary and measures 18’4”x15’2”. This bedroom serves as the perfect guest bedroom and offers privacy in a secluded loft floor.
Downstairs, the basement features a robust entertainment room, a full bathroom, a second laundry room, and an additional bedroom. The flooring transitions from the engineered hardwood seen on the entry level to carpet throughout the basement.
The downstairs bedroom includes recessed lighting, a ceiling fan, a walk-in closet, and access to a shared full bathroom. The full bathroom features a tile-surround tubbed shower, single vanity, and a door to access the entertainment room.
Access the convenient two-car garage through the mudroom in the interior of the home. A garage is truly an added luxury in Northern Virginia!
Final Thoughts on The “Poppy” by Classic Cottages
The “Poppy” by Classic Cottages flawlessly executes over 4,000 square feet of living space. While the exterior entry strays from that of a traditional home, the side entry leads to a flawlessly executed interior. Garages are hard to come by in Northern Virginia, especially in Arlington and Alexandria. The “Poppy” floor plan not only delivers a two-car garage, but a luxurious four-story residence that feels like home.
