Custom Ritz Craft Modular Home Like You’ve Never Seen

One thing I think most home shoppers are unaware of is how much customization can be done when it comes to building modular homes. Most builders constantly tell me that all anyone needs to do is bring their design and they can build it. While that may not be 100% accurate, modular homes can definitely be customized to meet the buyers needs.

While touring homes in Michigan, we had the opportunity to tour one such home. To my surprise it was actually one nicest custom Ritz Craft modular homes I have ever seen! The owner worked with Freedom Homes based in Midland, Michigan and Ritz Craft. Together, they were able to design their dream home using modular construction.

Custom Ritz Craft Modular Homes Exterior

As you approach the home, the exterior really jumps straight out with its amazing lines and stunning curb appeal. The outside of this custom modular home is finished in a dark gray vinyl siding and perfectly accented with white framed windows. There are multiple gables running across the front of the home that also add to the overall aesthetics of this home.

To the right is an attached two car garage and as we continue to walk around to the back of the home there are several more doors leading from both the back of the garage and just off the laundry room. The rest of this back portion of the home features a variety of windows offering views from both the living room and master suite.

On the far side of the home is where the three modules that make up the main structure of this home are most distinguishable. They run front to back, smallest to longest, with the longest one protruding slightly on this side of the home towards the back.

As you step onto the small recessed front porch and through the front door you are greeted with a beautiful foyer. Tis foyer definitely sets the tone for what’s in store throughout the rest of the home, including a sneak peek into the incredible kitchen. The foyer itself has lovely vinyl plank floors that continue in large portions of the home.

There is a coat closet to the left and a large pillar to the right. The pillar does a very nice job sectioning off the foyer from the other adjoining rooms and helps to give a very homey feel as you walk through the front door.

Second Floor

Walking through the foyer to the left is a hallway to the the secondary bedrooms. before that though is the stairwell to the 2nd floor. Now in this home the owner decided to initially keep the 2nd floor unfinished and currently use it for storage.

However, they did mention that in the future they intend to convert the upstairs to more living space and an office area. So there is a lot that you can do with the upstairs and there is plenty of space for pretty much whatever you can imagine. If you’d like additional bedrooms and a bathroom that would easily work. Another idea would be just a large bonus room for the kids.

Bedrooms and Bathroom

Continuing down the hall, you will find the first full bathroom to the right. There is a single vanity, toilet and a shower and tub combo. Personally, since there` are three bedrooms down here, I think a double vanity would be nice or even an additional bathroom, such as a jack and jill shared between two of the bedrooms. The owner of this home does use one of the bedrooms as an office so the current configuration works, however, if the office was used as a bedroom… you’d definitely need another bathroom.

The three bedrooms lie just past the bathroom, where the hall rounds off, in a large, almost common area in the hall. The first bedroom to the right is the smallest. It measures in at approximately 8ft 0in X 13ft 1in and sits on the side of the home. It has a narrower layout and a closet next to the doorway.

The second and third rooms are to the left of the previous and sit more towards the front of the home. They are really close to the same size measuring in at approximately 10ft 8.5in X 12ft 11in for the middle bedroom and 10ft 0in X 12ft 11in for the bedroom on the far left. They both have great big windows face out into the front yard and have large closets.

Dining Room

Back down the hallway to the right of the foyer is the dining room. It is a great big space with two large windows on the opposite side of the room looking out into the front yard as well as towards the driveway. In the middle is a cute light fixture hanging down over a beautiful dining room table. The dining room itself is so large there is plenty of space to add china cabinets or buffets along several of the walls.

Kitchen

From the dining you transition into a beautiful custom kitchen full of cabinets and drawers and stunning quartz countertops. A small partition wall divides the dining room from the island, which sits in the middle of the kitchen. On one side it has room for three stools and on the other is has six gigantic drawers ready to house an assortment of pots and pans.

The main kitchen counter is an “L” shape, again with quartz counter tops. All of the upper cabinets are a soft grey color and the lowers are a darker cherry color. Above the stove is a very convenient pot filler and above that a built in microwave. Running all they way around the counter is a lovely white subway tile back splash that just seems to blend right into the upper cabinets. The kitchen also includes a beautiful black undermount sink, a fancy trash compactor and a stainless dishwasher.

On the opposite side of the kitchen are floor to ceiling cabinets surrounding a large stainless refrigerator. Just off of that is another small counter, sitting below a small window peering out into the front yard. This spot is perfect for a coffee pot or other small appliances that you probably use on a regular basis.

It could even be used for a dry bar of sorts. Past the counter you will find a door that leads into a large pantry. It has plenty of shelves and large enough to easily access. The thing I love most about the pantry is how close it is to the garage door. This just make it too easy to bring the groceries in from the car and put them straight away.

Laundry Room

From the kitchen and pantry area you transition into the mud room. A pocket door separates the space and here you will find access into the garage and on the opposite wall are coat hooks. The doorway into the laundry room sits just in the middle of the two.

The laundry room itself has washer and dryer hook ups along with a wash basin to one side. On the opposite side is a large wood shelf with plenty of space below to add a number of things. I’m not going to lie though, I have know idea what I would put there. It does have an outlet so… something.

Living Room

Past the laundry room is a small entry way that leads out the back door. There is a closet to one side and one of three entrances into the living room on the other. The other ways to access the living room are from both the kitchen and the hallway leading from the foyer.

The living room sits just behind the kitchen and is a great big cozy area towards the back of the home. There are two great big windows looking out into the back yard and a beautiful shiplap accent wall separating the living room from the kitchen.

Master Suite

Just off the living room, also sitting on the back part of the home is the master suite. The owners wanted a grand space they could escape it all and grand is exactly what the got. The master bedroom is very large measuring in at approximately 14ft 9in X 12ft 11in. It has two large windows with amazing views into the beautiful wooded back yard. There are two closets here in the master bedroom, one along the wall as you walk in and one on the forward facing wall closest to the master bathroom.

The en-suite is even nicer with a large double vanity and floor to ceiling cabinets. On the opposite side of the the bathroom is a small water closet separated with a pocket door and next to that a large walk-in shower. And oh my goodness! The shower is spectacular with floor to ceiling tile surround as well as a tiled shower tray. There are three shower heads in hear also. Two are removable shower heads and one rainfall shower head. What I would give to have that!

Final Thoughts

The moral of the story is that modular homes are able to be customized. Don’t get too caught up in what you see on a basic floor plan provided by various builders. For the most part they can be customized and if they can’t, well just take them your own!
